Facts & Figures - Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis is a disease that causes the lining of the colon and rectum to become inflamed, leading to bleeding, frequent bouts of diarrhea, and can result in severe weight loss and anemia.

Fact: Ulcerative Colitis is diagnosed most frequently in men and women between the ages of fifteen and thirty, but some fifty to seventy year olds are diagnosed, and doctors are currently reporting that more children are developing this disorder.

Fact: While medications, such as steroids, immune-modulators, biological, and antibiotics, can help a sufferer manage ulcerative colitis, a complete cure requires removal of the affected organ.
